About This Training

Good intentions are not enough. This session shows how unconscious bias shapes decisions even when people mean well, and gives staff practical, repeatable strategies to interrupt it where it actually shows up: in hiring, evaluations, and everyday meetings. Participants also learn to define and respond to microaggressions, and to connect this work directly to their organization's stated values rather than treating it as a separate compliance task.

What Participants Learned

  • Interrupt bias where it counts. In hiring, evaluations, and meetings, the skill that grew the most.
  • Catch your own bias in the moment. Notice it as it happens, not only in hindsight.
  • Apply real strategies. Concrete tools to reduce the impact of bias, not just awareness of it.
  • Name bias and microaggressions clearly. Shared, accurate definitions the whole team can use.
  • Respond to microaggressions. Confidence to speak up when one is experienced or observed.
  • Tie it to values. Treat managing bias as part of living out organizational values.

It was energizing, felt safe, encouraged participation, and brought about support among staff.
